I renamed my hosts file to hosts.backup and ran SS&D. Sure enough, the 'Lock hosts' option was greyed out. I closed down SS&D and renamed the hosts file back, and the option became available in SS&D once again. You must have a hosts file (NO extention; *not* hosts.sam, or anything else, just 'hosts').

My file C:/windows/system32/drivers/etc/hosts does not seem to be doing its job. For instance: In my hosts file there are two entries. 127.0.0.1 ads.cnn.com and 127.0.0.1 ads.cnn.net When I ran Ad-Aware 2007 this morning there was ads.cnn listed as threats. What can I do to correct this problem?
