Let me clarify a few things - esp, on the disagreement between a couple of you on whether XP uses the host file - it (meaning IE or whatever browser you have), will only use it if you put some domains in it to block.

Hi, Can you use the HOST file to add another domain name for a know IP address and use that in your browser to navigate to it. Something appears to have happened to my Hosts file. The Hosts file icon in Windows Explorer has changed to the Windows Media Player icon. When I click on it , the Windows Media Player comes up followed by the Error window. Open Windows Explorer, go to View menu>Folder Options. Click on Filetypes tab.
